About Me
Hi! My name is Stephanie Mills and I am so excited to be a part of such an amazing group of teachers here at Selwyn. I am elated that I have been given the opportunity to be your child’s teacher! It’s going to be a wonderful year full of excitement through learning and new adventures. I can’t wait to get this year kicked off and get to know you. First, I would like to tell you a little bit about me.
I was born in Charlotte and grew up right down the road in Monroe. I have a younger brother, Jon, who lives and works in Charlotte doing computer programming and cyber security. My dad owns a landscaping business and lives in Ocean Isle Beach. When he comes to visit he always ends up doing something in my yard and tells me I should be ashamed that it looks so bad. (It’s not that bad, but it’s not Better Homes and Gardens worthy.) My mom is an accountant and lives in my old neighborhood. My family is very important to me and we do a lot together.
I graduated from Appalachian State University, Go Mountaineers, and was a cheerleader for all 3 national championships and the victory over the Michigan Wolverines. I love traveling to Boone to watch the football games, and it warms my heart that my daughter enjoys them as much as my husband and I do. I am hoping that my son will enjoy them too, but it may take him a while. He is more concerned with going to Tweetsie Railroad.
I married one of my friends that I grew up with, Daniel Mills, who is the branch manager for an electrical supply store. We have 2 amazing children, Riley and Konor. Riley is 9 and in Ms. Gardepe's 4th grade class. She is a lively, imaginative girl who loves to sing and dance. She is also the spitting image of me. She is the best big sister to Konor. Konor is my 5 year old, dinosaur and train loving, snack eating, future paleontologist or archaeologist, destroyer of all organization, crazy kid. He is the spitting image of his dad. Needless to say my children don't look all that alike. In our free time we enjoy going out to dinner with ice cream for dessert, playing outside, and traveling to the mountains and the beach. We have also been spending a great deal of time on the lake this summer wake surfing.
This will be my ninth year teaching at Selwyn. I began my career at working in the science lab and teaching 4th grade. Most of my time at Selwyn I had the joy of teaching second graders, the last class I taught in second grade are sixth graders this year. I loved teaching second grade but I am extremely excited to be apart of the 4th grade team. I am honored to be a part of your child’s life for this moment and to help them learn and grow as an individual.
